MINISTER COMMISSIONS 250,000 LITRES MALETE WATER PROJECT

The Minister of Water Resources, Engr. Suleiman Adamu (FNSE), has described clean water as a basic human right that should be made available to everyone. Engr. Adamu made this declaration while officially commissioning Sobi and Malete Water Works.

The projects were at the instance of the Lower Niger River Basin Development Authority (LNRBDA). The Minister described Sobi and Malete Water Works project as an actualization of Federal Government’s commitment to providing clean and potable water for the people. He further described water as the most important ingredient of life, which he said, was why the Federal Government is doing everything possible to ensure that Nigeria meets its target for sustainable Developmental Goal (SDG).

He congratulated the Lower Niger River Basin Development Authority and the contractors that handled the projects for the timely completion of the facilities. Engr Adamu said that the facilities would not only ease the pain of water scarcity in Kwara State but would positively impact on businesses which would result in further economic growth for the State. He urged the beneficiaries to take full responsibility for the maintenance of the facilities.

Appreciating the gesture, the Kwara State Governor, Mallam AbdulRahman AbdulRazaq, represented by the Permanent Secretary, Ministry of Water Resources Dr. Afolabi Ezekiel Adeshola, described the projects as a timely intervention by the Federal Government to complement the State Government\'s efforts at providing potable water for the people of the state.

Dr. Aremu urged the Kwara State University, Malete, to take advantage of these projects situated in its vicinity and explore them for the purpose of research development. He urged the University and other beneficiaries of the projects to take the leading role in maintaining the projects.
